Zunheboto district
is the home of the Sumi Nagas. Its headquarters at Zunheboto town,
is situated
at an altitude of 1874.22 meters above sea-level. Sumis are the
most aggressive in nature among the Nagas. Sumis are divided into two different clans namely Swu (Sumi) and
Tuku (Tukumi). The celebratory rituals performed by both clans are
different.

end up doing a war dance!! Visitors are usually invited to
join a traditional dance. There are different dances for different
occasions.

Places of Interest in Zunheboto District

Ghosu Bird Sanctuary
Located about 8 kms. south-west of Zunheboto town, this bird sanctuary is maintained by the village community. It
plays host to more than twenty species of endangered birds. Many migratory
birds have been sighted in this sanctuary. Poaching of birds, is strictly
prohibited; the order bound by customary laws of the the neighbouring
village communities.

The
most important festival of the Sumi Nagas is Tuluni.
It is celebrated during the second week of July, a season of bounty
in Nagaland. Drinking
rice beer is an indispensible
activity during this festival. Cups fashioned out of plantain leaves
hold the beer. This serving is called "Tuluni" and hence, the name.
