Phek district
is the home of the Chakhesang Naga tribe. The district headquarters
- Phek town, is located at
a distance of 145 kms. to the east of Kohima. This area is the
natural habitat of Blythe's Tragopan, a rare species of pheasant
found in Nagaland. Some of the most colourful species of orchids
are found in Phek District.

The
mysterious Shilloi
Lake.
Shilloi
lake or Lachem lake, is located close to the border with
Myanmar. Shaped like a giant human foot, this lake is believed
to be haunted by spirits, by the local people. As such, they
do
not use the water from this lake for any purpose.

The
enchanting valleys all over Nagaland are covered in mists especially
in the morning. This is the time when rural folks are
usually working in their fields, growing rice, corn, vegetables
and fruits.

Chakhesang
culture is a bit different from the other Naga tribes. The traditional
attire of the Chakhesangs
are the most colourful among all the other Nagas. Their elaborate
head-dress is one of a kind.

Places of Interest in Phek
District
|
Khezakenoma Village Believed to be the originating point for many Southern Naga tribes,
Khezakenoma village holds an important place in Naga history. There
is another legend connected to this village. A slab of stone
said to multiply paddy when spread over it, still exists. Of course,
the magic is gone now.
Pfütsero Located south-west of Phek headquarters lie another beautiful town, Pfütsero, which is also the coldest town in Nagaland. Apples are grown in this region.
